EMX Introduces Universal-Voltage Vehicle Loop Detector

b

Cleveland, OH - EMX Industries Inc., a manufacturer of sensors for automation and gate/door control, announced the MVP D-TEK, the first vehicle loop detector that is compatible with 9VDC to 220VAC power supplies. Service and installation technicians can stock a single MVP D-TEK vehicle loop detector on their truck, and when they get to a customer site, they will be sure of having a detector compatible with whatever voltage is supplied at that site. In addition, the new detector reduces dealer stocking requirements up to 80 percent.

Vehicle loop detectors are used as part of a system to control motorized gates and doors in parking garages, car washes, and traffic control. An inductive-loop detector senses the presence of a vehicle, and the integral microcontroller processes this signal and sends a relay control output.

Reduces Stocking Requirements

Automated gate and door systems operate on a variety of power voltages. Instead of stocking a different model vehicle loop detector for each voltage type – 9VDC, 12VDC, 24VDC, 24VAC, 110VAC, 220VAC – users need stock only one MVP D-TEK. This means that gate/door dealers and distributors can free up shelf space and dollars normally tied up in inventory.

In addition, the MVP D-TEK solves the longtime problem of not knowing which voltage type unit to take to a service call or installation. Technicians will never need to make a return trip to get a certain voltage detector, avoiding wasted service time and gas.

Cuts Current Draw 60 Percent

Compared to other loop detectors, the MVP D-TEK vehicle loop detector features reduced current draw. Many gate/door controls manufacturers are shrinking their systems' supply power, because it lowers the user's energy bill. What's more, there is a trend toward an increasing number of accessory controls that must draw power from the same system. EMX has addressed this trend by introducing a detector that draws only 20mA – a 60 percent increase in efficiency compared to other models.

Features

Like other models in the D-TEK product line, the MVP features dual relay outputs – one for presence and a second output programmable for pulse or presence. For durability, it has a shielded housing made of aircraft-grade aluminum. The MVP D-TEK loop detector is self-regulating and will automatically detect which voltage is required. It uses a standard 11-pin socket base for easy interchangeability. The MVP D-TEK is the first universal-voltage vehicle loop detector to operate in both fail safe and fail secure modes. It has a built-in loop conditioner, loop isolation, loop diagnostics, gold-plated contacts and a frequency counter.
